Artist Statement
My practice explores themes of identity, heritage and the cultural voids we navigate as members of the diaspora.
As an Australian artist with Armenian and Irish heritage, I am drawn to the complexities of belonging and displacement.
A central aspect of my work is a reverence for the matriarchal figures within my family whose influence shaped my understanding of heritage.
Through tactile textures and tufting, I create hyper-texturised dreamscape devices that reimagine forgotten relics such as ancient cultural motifs and urban forms.
I am inspired by both personal and societal history, which leads my approach to textiles as a form of tactile storytelling.
Each piece I create serves as an act of remembrance; inviting viewers to reflect on their own history and the narratives that shape both personal and collective identities.
